Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a Chinese medical practice that treats illness
and provides local anesthesia by the insertion of needles at
predetermined sites of the body. Acupuncture may also follow
many other forms. The word acupuncture comes from the Latin
word acus, meaning needle, and pungere, meaning puncture. The
Chinese call acupuncture Chen Chiu.

I had acupuncture performed on me several times by a doctor who was trained in China. She had been a nurse, and was very happy practicing nursing, but her aptitude was recognized and she was pulled out of her hospital and trained to be a doctor. She treated me after my car accident in 1990 with a combination of herbs, acupuncture, massage, and Tui Na, during which she attempted to push the herniated discs in my lower back into their original place.

Acupuncture is used in the treatment of a wide variety of
medical problems. It is used for ear, nose, and throat disorders,
respiratory disorders, Gastrointestinal disorders, Eye disorders, and
Neurological and Muscular disorders. The needles used in
acupuncture are usually only inserted from 1/4 to 1 inch deep into
the skin. There is usually no pain in acupuncture. Usually if any
pain it is only mild. Most of the needles now used in acupuncture
are disposable needles. Acupuncture does not always only involve
needles. They may also use other methods such as moxibustion,
cupping, electronic stimulation, magneotherapy and various types
of massage. There are also many different styles of acupuncture
practiced all over the world.

There are many things to consider when choosing an
acupuncturist. Acupuncture is a licensed and regulated healthcare
profession in about half the states in the United States. There are
many acupuncture practices which are not certified, so when
choosing one some research is required. If you get acupuncture
usually between five to fifteen sessions are required, depending on
the severity of the complaint. Many acute conditions only require
a single treatment. The main thing to remember when receiving
acupuncture is to simply relax. After acupuncture treatments
much of the pain may be gone after the first treatment, or in some
cases it takes more. In some cases the pain may become worse;
this is known as the rebound effect.

Low carb eating

For those who are overweight, or who have diabetes, the low-calorie and low-fat diets recommended by the government do not work well. In fact, for diabetics, they can actually worsen the condition. The only diet that strikes at the real cause of obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, hypoglycemia, and type 2 diabetes is a low-carbohydrate diet. Many doctors and nutritionists are now starting to recognize this.

Low carb eating is more than just a diet, but a way of life for many, myself included. This is not something that you undertake until you lose X number of pounds, and then go back to the way you were eating before. This way of life helps you to not only lose weight, but to control Type 2 Diabetes, lower your cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, and even out your blood sugar levels, controlling hypoglycemia and hyperinsulism.

On a low-carb diet, you can eat until you're full, as long as you eat only allowed foods. Allowed foods are meats, fish, poultry, eggs, and cheese, plus a limited amount of green vegetables. Stay away from foods that contain sugar, honey, and large amounts of carbohydrate in the form of starch, especially bread and pastries. To create the energy that it needs, your body must burn fuel. If available, the carbohydrates are burned first. If you remove the carbohydrates (sugar), the body will then burn fat. One the fat is depleted, the body will burn protein as a last-resource fuel.

Essiac

Essiac is an herbal mixture developed by a Canadian nurse, Rene Marie Caisse. It is thought to be a cure, and possibly a preventative, for cancer.

Nurse Caisse ran her Cancer Clinic in Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada, from 1934 to 1942. She rented the clinic from the city for $1.00 per month. Rene never a dime from her patients for her care. She helped give hope and health to thousands of people. The medical establishment gave her major hassles throughout her life, and sought to close her clinic down and discredit her work. Yet, she had faith in what she was doing, and stood up to the establishment.

Essiac, is made up of four main herbs that grow in the wilderness of Ontario, Canada. The original formula is believed to have its roots in native Canadian Ojibway medicine. The four herbs that make up the traditional formula are Burdock root, sheep sorrel, Indian rhubarb root, and the inner bark of slippery elm. The four herbs are thought to make the compromised (by cancer) body systems more normal by cleansing the blood, getting rid of toxic build up, promoting cell repair and helping in effective digestion of nutrients and elimination of wastes. When combined, it is thought that their separate beneficial effects are magnified. Several cases of poisoning have been reported from drinking commercial burdock root tea. There is a newer formula, containing four additional herbs, which vary according to which source you are accessing.

Welcome To Healthy Alternative!

Hi Friends,

Welcome to the Healthy Alternative Web Site. I will be working hard to fill this site with as much information as I can find on living healthy with alternative medicines. Of course I am not a doctor, so before trying any of this please consult with a professional in your area. This information is posted only to help with my research. I can not guarantee the accuracy of any information posted here.

In some cases I may talk about alternative medicines I have tried and the results I have had (or perceived to have had). Once again, I am not a doctor, I am only posting information I find so I can refer back to it later for further scrutiny.

I do hope that by me assembling all this information in one place it will help others find the answers they are looking for.

See you soon,
Healthy Alternative
